Former Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Ashok Gehlot, has expressed his discontent with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's lack of comments regarding the 2022 murder case of Kanhiya Lal Sahu during his visit to Banswara. Gehlot took to social media to voice his concerns, stating, 'During his visit to Banswara, Prime Minister Modi did not utter a word about justice for Kanhiya Lal Sahu. The silence from both the Home Minister and now the Prime Minister is distressing for the people of Rajasthan.'
He further accused the BJP-led central government of being insensitive to the issue, suggesting that it has been reduced to mere electoral politics. Gehlot pointed out that the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has failed to deliver justice to the criminals involved even after three years.
Gehlot remarked that previously, during government events, the Prime Minister would highlight his administration's achievements and future plans, but that tradition seems to have faded. He criticized Modi for using a government event to launch political attacks against Congress, calling it inappropriate.
In his post, Gehlot reminded the Prime Minister of his pre-election promise that no Congress government schemes would be terminated once the BJP came to power. He stated, 'We have no objection to renaming any scheme, but you should investigate; since the BJP took over, Congress's initiatives in Rajasthan have either been halted or weakened.'
He concluded by stating that it would have been better for the Prime Minister to account for the promises made before the elections, noting that Modi's guarantees have lost their credibility in Rajasthan.
On Thursday, PM Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation for several development projects in Banswara, with a total investment exceeding ₹1,22,100 crores. The murder of tailor Kanhiya Lal Sahu occurred in June 2022 when Gehlot was serving as the Chief Minister of Rajasthan.
